12th September, the firm of Pilar Dalbat and her collection ‘2020, part II’ is one of those in charge of launching the Madrid Benz Fashion Week. The chosen place is the Matadero, a reference center of the Spanish capital in art and design, with a collection that represents and summarizes the last 20 years that the firm celebrates.

The Madrid Benz Fashion Week catwalk has brought together 16 established designers from the industry in its 72nd edition, which has undoubtedly been one of the most particular of its journey. Following the guidelines that the Covid-19 has forced to take, fashion shows have been characterized by their low capacity and by proposals in hybrid formats.

Pilar Dalbat, who had previous experience in this type of presentation, being the first brand in Spain to present its ‘Abadía 360’ collection in 2017 in virtual reality or the ‘A DEAF RUNWAY’ project using technology; also launches an audiovisual project to claim the value of sustainable and artisan fashion.

The ‘2020, part II’ collection is, as its name indicates, the second part of ‘2020’. The first part was focused on winter patterns. In this edition, Dalbat presents 28 different looks with summer motifs focused on comfort. A reference to the process that we undergo from confinement to freedom found in open spaces.

Clothes are based on oversized, tunics or raincoats that sway with the walk of the models on the catwalk. Also loose and often removable garments in several pieces are predominant in a very serene and minimalist fashion show.

Navy blues that remind of the sea – turquoise, basic neutrals such as black and white predominate. The total looks in silver; the metallic circular earrings; and the long and symmetrical braids of the models, recontextualized artisan fashion to its most futuristic point.

As a personal mark of the brand, the Pilar Dalbat fashion show features designs made by hand with quartz and methacrylate, asymmetric stripes and a location very related to the designer’s passion for architecture.

The Sala Intermediae of El Matadero, with its grayish walls, columns and industrial appearance, spacious and minimalist, perfectly expressed the intention of heritage that the designer was looking for. In addition, the use of natural and artificial light combined, contributed to the parade commemorating the 20 years of the firm.

El Matedero de Madrid is a reference point for contemporary art and culture, with a very close relationship with design. An undoubtedly perfect place beyond the IFEMA space, for a collection that expresses artisan fashion and claims a current slow industry, with the title ‘2020’.
