A few weeks ago, we went to the beautiful city of Porto as part of a work trip. There, we had the chance to stay and create content for a few properties and hotels. You can read all about another charming stay in the city here and if you need some foodie recommendations don’t hesitate to visit our Porto City Guide. Exmo. hotel has become a design destination for hotel lovers, whilst still maintaining its historic reputation. This was our first time sleeping in the very heart of Porto, right next to the iconic Luis I bridge.

With its sixteen bedrooms and a lovely penthouse, this laidback property implores its visitors to feel at home. Arriving at Exmo. you’ll find an elegant lounge area featuring an exquisite bar space. The ever welcoming staff of Exmo. helped us unload our luggage, before we stepped on the outstanding sculptural and full white staircase on our way to the last floor.

Views to the Duoro Ribeira.

With its minimalistic interiors and sweeping views, first impressions when arriving at the property were incredibly positive. Our room was one of the largest in the hotel, featuring a king-size bed, sofa, and desk area – with elegant fabrics and a muted colour scheme, with touches of orange and dark wood running throughout, the bedroom was immediately welcoming and cosy.

Add to this, there were also a couple of warm pasteis ready to be eaten waiting for us upon arrival, as well as beautiful views over the riverside, the famous bridge and the many warehouses on the other side of town. The bathroom featured a generous and beautifully designed walk-in shower also with stunning views to the nearest rooftops.

Specialized breakfast early in the morning.

The food and drink offering at Exmo.was always impressive, with multiple options to choose from. In the Exmo. Bar, you’ll find the perfect spot for a wine glass at midnight or a relaxing cup of cappuccino. This is also where breakfast is served in the morning: regulars such as freshly-made croissants and granola sit on the menu next to more inventive options, including a big offer of different types of bread and scones.

You can previously order and tick off as many dishes as you like on a special sheet the staff provides upon arrival! The main bar has a smart-casual feel with slick surfaces and bold pops of colour; with an overall balance between business yet relaxed feeling.

Lounge bar and drinks at Exmo.

Downstairs there’s a cozy lounge area with stoned walls, oxford couches, wooden dinner tables and shelves filled with travel guides and design books. It feels like a completely different space and it has a very social and sophisticated atmosphere.

There’s an overwhelming feeling of laidback luxury throughout the property: one of my favourite memories from the trip was watching the sunset from our room’s window and glancing at the vibrant nightlife of every lit up balcony. We got the opportunity to get some shots done there and film for a while and it’s a memory we will cherish for sure.

Views to Douro: rooftops, river and giant brigde.

Overall we loved our stay at Exmo. hotel and would certainly return. Staff throughout the property were incredibly polite, efficient and welcoming -with a special mention to Carolina, who guided and helped us every time with a big smile despite the general situation. Every corner of the estate is beautifully maintained and designed, and it is still intimate even in such a busy and centric location.

Covid measures were also in place, spaces were not packed and it felt very neat and safe all the time. We especially recommend this hotel if you are looking for an excellent located property that allows you explore Porto easily by foot and a memorable view towards the river and its most famous attractions. We will be back!
